Liminality series

This body of work explores internal personal portraits from an external perspective.

Mental states define how we feel about ourselves, how we engage with others, how we see the world around us and who we think we are – our identity.

We can all feel that at points we are submerging into poor mental health, sometimes maybe we feel like we’re emerging from a difficult period, or in good times we have a sense of equilibrium.

Lockdown Labyrinth series

This painting series explores the ideas of personal freedoms and simple pleasures discovered during the Covid-19 lockdowns. Through the format of the figure in landscape, it asks questions about our role in nature.

During the Covid 19 lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, my family and I took to walking in nature to get our exercise but also to cope with the anxiety and stress. I captured some photographs of these walks and instinctively started making paintings based on these as a way to manage my mental health.

In 2022 I had a solo show at Jeannie Avent Gallery called ‘Lockdown Labyrinth.’ The ‘Tooting Common’ painting has also featured in a group show called ‘England is a Forest’ at The Minories, Colchester in 2024.
